the art of charity breaking your windows

mierda botch

Last night media watch gave us a lesson in ... Well I don't know what it was about...

Lomborg has been a deceiver on global warming issue for a long time. His position seems to shift slightly but not much from his view, shared by many rich turds, that global warming IS NOT AN URGENT ISSUE.
So it could have been a lesson in how the Turdigraph and the Furphy Morntag Herald view the Lomborg controversy in Australia, differently. The Turdigraph was seething at one of its reporters hitting Lomborg on the head with a feather, because god bless him, Lomborg writes articles for this paper, as one would expect from this denialist paper..
Meanwhile according to Mierda Botch:
Meanwhile the Sydney Morning Herald did have staff available and was soon publishing more of Dunlop’s letter and hoeing into the row

“Creation of Tony Abbott-backed Lomborg 'consensus centre' has tarnished our reputations, say academics

— Sydney Morning Herald, 24th April, 2015”
Indeed, the Herald thought it so important they put big four big-gun reporters on the case.

To which Gus say why not. Global warming is a very important issue, of which the insurance industry is putting a brave face to, but it knows in the long run, premiums will have to rise and pay-outs become exclusions in small print clauses about "acts of gods".
Lomborg uses various subterfuges to present his slanted views, for which of course, the right-wing think tanks and financiers see clever ways to DELAY any action on the subject of global warming — and especially propagate doubts in any action being successful — by this read: profitable.
As global warming is seen more and more as irrefutable by the deniers, they find ways to stop doing any thing about it. And Lomborg is their golden boy.
Now the questions are numerous about the intent of the Turdy federal government by funding Lomborg's "Consensus Centre". What would be wrong for the government for example to finance its OWN academics to do the research AND application on "framing the debate on aid, Australian prosperity, agriculture and regional issues and focus on smart, long-term priorities ... and phase out fossil fuel subsidies..."
The discreet key word here is "framing"... Here we know that basically they want to shift the focus from the scientific debate towards doing nothing much that resemble a lot of social issues as long as they're not equitably socialist but firmly anchored in the capitalist view of charitable enterprises.
If this is what the Turdy government wants to do, IT DOES NOT NEED LOMBORG's presence to do it, efficiently and academically. There are many Australian academics who have the qualifications to do so... Aaaahhhrrggg, I see, the Lomborg "Consensus Centre" will apparently employ Aussie academics to do the "research"... Rot?

Is there a bit of hypocrisy going on?... The thing I've learnt since dealing with Lomborg's views is that one cannot trust him to understand much on the climate change issue. His writings have been "peer reviewed" and totally DISCREDITED. Lomborg writes plausible SHIT to the untrained eye and bamboozle the simpletons with high dosages of scientific information —  which is highly manipulated and unscientific in its data management and extrapolation, but looks impressive nonetheless.
So the key here is that Lomborg and his supporters want to minimise our "belief" that climate change demands urgent action.
So there is this ideal about helping poor countries and manage our resources smarter, including — this is a new one — eliminate subsidies to the fossil fuel industry... Tickle me a bit lower so I can laugh...
One should not shy at looking at who is sponsoring Lomborg's Consensus Centre... One of the main backer, to the tune of US$200,000 is someone called Paul Singer — and indirectly Bill Gates, whose "charitable" enterprise does not want to divest from investing in fossil fuels. Hey they all make cash from this.
Paul Singer is proud to be one of the one per cent rich — he has not made it into the inner sanctum of the one per cent of the one per cent. He makes his fortune by cheaply buying out debts in third world countries and squeezing their nuts to get cash back on an usury interest basis... They don't call this "Vulture Funds" for nothing. Thus the debt is rarely managed beyond repaying interest, plunging these poor counties into more debt. Thus Sponsoring Lomborg and his vision of helping poor country become more whatever, is a great shirt front for the debt collectors. The "richer" the poor countries can become by being helped with aid, the more cash the debt collector can collect. You wiv me?...
This is what I call "philanthropy that smashes your windows... so it can send the glazier to fix it"
Am I too cynical?
And yes, the Herald needs FOUR reporters to study all the hypocritical finickery behind the scene of what Lomborg is the front man thereof.
It is my view that Mierda Botch missed a great opportunity to explore all this, but then who knows what pressures the ABC and its department place on themselves — in order to please their Turdy masters.

they don't call vulture funds for nothing...

A billionaire “vulture capitalist” and major backer of the US Republican Party is a major funder of the think tank of Danish climate science contrarian and fossil fuels advocate Bjørn Lomborg, DeSmogBlog has found.

New York-based hedge fund manager Paul Singer’s charitable foundation gave $200,000 to Lomborg’s Copenhagen Consensus Center (CCC) in 2013, latest US tax disclosures reveal.

The grant to Lomborg’s think tank is revealed in the tax form of the Paul E. Singer Foundation covering that foundation’s activities between December 2012 and November 2013.

Singer, described as a “passionate defender of the 1%”, has emerged as a major force in the Republican party in recent years and was a key backer and influencer during Mitt Romney’s failed tilt at the Presidency.

The $200,000 grant represented almost one third of the $621,057 in donations declared by the Copenhagen Consensus Center in 2013.

A spokesperson for the think tank told DeSmogBlog that “not one dollar” of the Singer grant had been spent.

Lomborg, a Danish political scientist, is often cited on lists of the world’s most influential people.

He writes extensively on climate change and energy issues with his columns appearing in many of the world’s biggest news outlets.

The CCC think tank produces reports that consistently argue that cutting greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the roll-out of current renewable energy technologies should be low priorities for policy makers.

land clearing under turdy and coaly...

We know who Turdy is. Coaly in this story is the departed Newman, former premier of Qld...:

Queensland bushland is being destroyed on an “industrial scale”, with approvals for land clearing underway creating the equivalent of nearly 2% of Australia’s annual COemissions, according to an environmental group.

The Wilderness Society said leaked data showed land clearing had tripled in Queensland over three years, after the former Liberal National government removed protection for woodlands to enable intensive agriculture.

The largest single example underway is the Olive Vale property on Cape York,  from which 330sq km of “world heritage quality” woodland is being razed.

The LNP ruled out grazing as an example of the “high value agriculture” intended to benefit when passing the new laws in 2013.

However, Olive Vale owner Ryan Global is a beef industry player which has flagged increasing the number of cattle on the property from 15,000 to 25,000.

The razing of the Olive Vale bushland puts 17 threatened species at risk and increases runoff and pollution into Great Barrier Reef waters, according to the Wilderness Society.

They claim the impact on wildlife meant the project should have been referred to the commonwealth under species protection laws and have called for an urgent investigation by federal environment minister Greg Hunt.
