the simpsons

Back in the days of Dubya, YameriKa was like an episode of the famous Springfield family... (above mischief by Gus Leonisky — 2008). Now it's a bit more like "Everyone Loves Obama (Raymond)" and "That 70's Show" mixed with the "Vampires"...

Sam Simon, a co-creator of the long-running hit animated series The Simpsons, has died aged 59 after a battle with cancer.

Simon, an ardent philanthropist for animals, won nine Emmy awards for his work as a writer, director and executive producer of The Simpsons.

The cartoon began as an animated short on The Tracey Ullman Show.

Simon was in charge of the writing staff and helped develop the characters populating the dysfunctional world around the oafish but endearing Homer Simpson: his dutiful wife Marge and their children Bart, Lisa and Maggie.

The show was a smart social satire built around crass characters and it became the longest-running sitcom on American television.

After four seasons of The Simpsons, Simon negotiated a deal to leave the show while retaining a percentage of its future earnings, which would bring him between $US20 million and $US30 million a year.

He is still listed as executive producer in the show's credits.

Vale the cartoonist...

multilayered sensibility...

Mr. Simon helped populate Springfield, the fictional town where the Simpsons live, with a range of characters. He insisted that the show be created using some conventional sitcom techniques like having writers work collectively. He had the voice actors read their parts as an ensemble, with the goal of giving the show more lifelike rhythm and timing. And he hired many of the show’s first writers, a number of whom gave him credit for informing its multilayered sensibility, one that skewers pieties with anarchic humor and sometimes vulgarity while celebrating family and community.

“’If you leave out Sam Simon, you’re telling the managed version,” Jon Vitti, one of the show’s first writers, told The New York Times in 2001. “He was the guy we wrote for.”

Jay Kogen, a former producer of “The Simpsons,” told The Times that Mr. Simon “knew the freedom that animation provides and utilized it to the full extent.”

Condolences to the family and friends...

no equivalent...

I'm stumped... I've tried to find a TV comedy equivalent to the present Trumpade, but nothing comes to mind... Most of the new situation comedies have gone insipid anyway. TV comedies of today could not possibly express the loony tune of the Donaldom in full bloom. The only thing I could find was a Harold Lloyd clip from about 94 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEcTjhUN_7U .
