coffinoswald

The coffin which used to contain the body of Lee Harvey Oswald is to be sold at auction in a few weeks.

The man believed to have shot President John F Kennedy was interred in the pine coffin for almost 20 years.

He was exhumed in 1981 as his widow wanted to verify that it was him inside the coffin, and then reburied in a new casket in the same Texas cemetery.

Auction officials say bidding for the item will start at $1,000 (£640) but they expect it to go much higher.

"There's just a lot of interest in Kennedy and anything to do with his assassination," said Laura Yntema, manager for Nate D Sanders auction house.

Gus: apparently, Lincoln and Kennedy shared a few coincidences, 100 years apart...

Lincoln was  elected President in 1860. Kennedy in 1960.

Both presidents were shot, on a Friday, in the head.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy and Kennedy's secretary was named Lincoln

Both were "assassinated" by Southeners and both were succeeded by a Johnson...

John Wilkes Booth who killed Lincoln was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald who killed Kennedy was born in 1939.

Lincoln was shot at a theater named "Ford"...
Kennedy was shot in a Lincoln made by Ford

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials...

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland...
A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe...

And we still don't know if Lee Harvey Oswald really did the deed...

--------------------------
There have been numerous conspiracy theories ever since about who really shot JFK and why Lee Harvey Oswald was killed.

An item described as the window and frame from where Lee Harvey Oswald shot US President John F Kennedy in 1963 has been sold at auction on eBay.

A mystery bidder paid more than $3m (£1.5m) for the item, apparently from Oswald's shooter's nest at the Texas Schoolbook Depository.

The starting price was just $100,000 but bidding was brisk and the item eventually fetched $3,001,501.

The depository was owned by a local family that listed the item on eBay.

'Piece of history'

Caruth Byrd, a member of that family, says the window of the Dallas building was removed shortly after the assassination because people were stealing bits of it.

in the same hospital...

1963: Kennedy 'assassin' murdered The man accused of assassinating the US President, John F Kennedy, has himself been shot dead in a Dallas police station.

Lee Harvey Oswald, a 24-year-old former Marine, was being transferred from police headquarters to the county jail, at the centre of a large crowd of police officers, reporters and camera crews.

The event was being covered live on television, and Americans across the country watched in astonishment as a man - later identified as Jack Ruby, a Dallas nightclub owner - stepped forward, drew a gun and shot Mr Oswald at point-blank range.

Ruby died of a pulmonary embolism, secondary to bronchogenic carcinoma (lung cancer), on January 3, 1967 at Parkland Hospital, where Oswald had died and where President Kennedy had been pronounced dead after his assassination. He was buried beside his parents in the Westlawn Cemetery in Chicago.
