The manager of Opposition business Christopher Pyne has become the first MP of the new Parliament to be booted from the chamber during Question Time.

Question Time is operating under new time limits and other rules aimed to ensure proper debate and less abuse of the process.

During an answer from Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Mr Pyne wanted to make a point of order but was denied by Speaker Harry Jenkins who had already sat Ms Gillard down.

Mr Pyne then said Ms Gillard had sat down because she was "hopeless".

He was promptly expelled from the chamber for one hour.

"The record can show, and I'll take the consequences, that yes, there was an element that I sat the Prime Minister down," Mr Jenkins said.

"But that does not allow someone without the call to stand at the despatch box and throw endearments across the table."

Later during debate over new rules surrounding supplementary questions, Mr Jenkins quipped that he was not one of the "elite three" that formulated them.

On Monday when Mr Jenkins was re-elected to the position, Mr Pyne said he and the Speaker had a "love-hate relationship".

"I need you to love me as the manager of Opposition business, but I haven't always felt that love," he said.

ABC apologises and pulls Pyne-hate article

Mr Pyne, the MP ejected from parliament yesterday, has not complained about the article to ABC.

In an article titled "The Christopher Pyne experiments" on The Drum website, writer Marieke Hardy looked at the question of whom Australia despised the most - Channel Seven's Kyle Sandilands, India, AFL star Brendan Fevola or musician Kanye West.

"It seems that nobody in the whole of Australia likes him (Pyne)," Hardy wrote.

"Which leads me to presume that perhaps there is nobody in the entire world who is loathed by Australia more than Christopher Pyne."

Hardy began her piece by saying an appearance by Mr Pyne on the ABC's Q&A program had caused the nation to "silently pray for him to get attacked by a large and libidinous dog".

She went on to claim that Australia "hates Christopher Pyne more than we hate Kyle Sandilands", also comparing him unfavourably to India and Brendan Fevola.

The only person the nation may hate equally as much as Mr Pyne was Kanye West, Hardy wrote.

She then offered this conclusion:

"And what can we draw from this? Firstly that Christopher Pyne should probably release a hit single soon or flash a mother if he's going to survive another year in politics without people simply walking up to him on the street and swatting him with a dirty glove.

"Still, I'm yet to explore part two of this particular experiment which involves Lara Bingle, Matthew Newton, and the family of missing toddler Keisha Abrahams. So there's hope for you yet Christopher Pyne! I say this with affection, mind."

The editor of The Drum, Jonathan Green, today posted an apology to Mr Pyne.

Gus: no spine at the ABC....

Unleashed has thrown as much dirt on Julia, via Bob Ellis — in his love of Labor/hate of Julia relationship — and a few others, so why make an exception for Pyne?... Is this an Unleashed publicity stunt alla Sarah Murdoch? And the critism, sataristically expressed is on the money. Pyne expresses crappy opinions, punches below the belt  and throws nasty barbs at Labor politicians, so he should expect the same in return. The idea of Unleashed is to express robust opinions whether one agrees with or not. And the opinion of Pyne by this lovely lady, Marieke Hardy, is on the money in my humble and I hope fair judgement...

ABC policy...

The policy at the ABC (see item above) is that no-one is allowed to say that someone is a little shit, but one can say that what someone said is shit.

Except the word shit cannot be used. Crap can be used, but not much.

I can't see anything that Marieke Hardy said that would be construed at saying that Pyne was (is) a little shit. She only infers that a great portion of the population does not like him or even hates him more than .... (insert the name of your choice). Robust way to express a feeling we share here at YD.

Keep your eye on the ball.

I agree with you Gus but, there is a feeling that this person has the obsessive belief that he is the "ants pants" and the only way to make people aware of his omnipotence is to stir the pot.

Is this fool the fool of Shakespeare’s day who was usually called the Joker?  No that has to be Mz. Bishop very senior.

At the very best, I fear that the powers that be have chosen a very offensive person [who by definition means total exposure] to take away from the stupidity and anti-Australian attitude of Tony Abbott? Or to concentrate the nasty aspects of the neo-conservatives on one person’s shoulders? Howard's diversion?

The entire remnants of the Howard “New Order” are the last gang that Australia needs while coming out of a Murdoch dictated election.

NE OUBLIE.

awol pyne...

Opposition education spokesman Christopher Pyne has been forced to answer accusations he messed up the vote on his own bill to force a judicial inquiry into the Government's schools building program.

This morning the Coalition failed in its bid to pass several motions against the Government and a private member's bill to establish a judicial inquiry into the Building the Education Revolution (BER) program.

When the bill was up before the House, Mr Pyne did not call for a division and it was defeated before the third reading.

Leader of the House Anthony Albanese has seized on Mr Pyne's actions as proof that the bill was nothing more than a stunt.

And he has accused Mr Pyne of forgetting to turn up to the chamber to bring on the vote.

"Mr Pyne also then says that he inadvertently missed the vote," he said.

"First I was asked by Mr Pyne if we would agree to a recommittal [of the vote]. Then later on... Mr Pyne indicated that they weren't interested in recommitting the vote any more.

"This shows that their BER campaign has no substance, it's all about stunts."
